                                              Journal Article Summary Instructions

         Part 1: SEARCH
             1. Follow the instructions provided to use Summons to select a journal article to review for this
assignment. Your article needs to meet the following criteria:
                      a. Must focus on K12 education.
                      b. Must be published since 2015
                      c. Must be from the United States
*Hint, use these as your search criteria
             2. Once you have chosen your article, get approval from your instructor.
             3. Create the APA citation you will need to add to your reference page. Also, go ahead and create the in-
text citation you will need when writing your review.

Part 2: Practicing APA Reference Style
         1. Read the full text journal article selected. (You will probably need to read it more than once. Remember
the tips from the infographic and from Dr. Durb’s video)

         2. Prepare the title page: Create a Header with your running head and page number. The title page should
contain assignment title, your name, and University name. (See Sample on Blackboard.)
Center title page information from left to right, and top to bottom on the title page, double spacing between
         lines.

         3. Article summary: Summarize the article in your own words in three (3) to four (4) pages of narrative.
Double space, use a consistent, 12-point font, and 1 inch margins. A summary should address the following:
                      • Kind of research. Qualitative, Quantitative, Mixed- Methods, etc.
                      • Description of subjects and setting. Who were the participants? Where was the study
                          conducted?
                      • Identify the research hypothesis and/or research question/s. What was the research trying to
                          do?
                      • Discuss three findings from the article. What did the study find out?
                      • Identify two limitations of the study. What did the study not find out? What new questions did
                          it create for future studies?
                      •
         4. In-text citations. You must provide examples of each of these types of in-text citations.
                      a) Direct quote
                      b) Paraphrase citation
                      c)
         5. Reference page: Title this page “Reference/s.” Use APA style to reference the journal article on this page.
Use the citation provided to cite your article. That will be the only thing on this page!

         6. What to submit to Blackboard.
                      a) Article Summary including title page and reference page. This will be five (5) to six (6) pages in
length including a title page, summary (3-4 pages) and a reference page.
