Competitive examinations including the law entrance tests known as CLAT,
AILET, CET and those conducted by Universities such as DU, AMU, BHU,
Allahabad, Jamia Millia Islamia, invariably contain a fairly large section to
test the candidate’s knowledge of static general knowledge and current
affairs. In CLAT questions on current affairs are based on the events of the
past one year. However, there is no such prescribed pattern for other law
entrance tests and other competitive examinations. Out of the 175 questions
of DU’s All-India Annual Law Entrance Test, a large number of questions are
based on current affairs. In fact, questions such as identifying the Dean of its
law faculty have also been asked.
In short, the pattern of questions can never be predicted. As far as the
institutions and organizations are concerned, you have to acquaint yourself
with the history and details of the present incumbents of important posts.
You can extract these details from the respective websites before you take the
examinations. This habit will give you an edge over your peers, particularly
            in personality/viva-voce tests.
While a thorough knowledge of the original NCERT text books and other
Boards, regular reading of at least one national newspaper and listening to
the news bulletins of All India Radio are no substitute for this particular
section, the book in your hands will acquaint you with basic facts relating to
our country, its rich history, its surroundings and other useful details. It is a
basic compilation of relevant facts on which questions are framed frequently
in almost all the competitive examinations. Abbreviations and terms
originally culled out from the Economic Surveys, India-Year Books, leading
national dailies such as Economic Times, the Economist etc., thousands of
MCQs at the end of the relevant chapters make this book a must read for
every candidate appearing for competitive examinations. The previous year
questions asked in CLAT, AILET and also in Delhi University law entrance
examinations make it even more indispensable for law aspirants.

Delhi Police for the welfare and educational activities of underprivileged
youth as I am of the firm belief that I being a privileged citizen of this great
country, owe certain individual responsibilities to make it a better nation.

                                                                      PRASANNANSHU
