MAJOR INFORMATION
The Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology and Nutrition offers students a degree that is specifically designed for those who want to study human-specific aspects
of health and disease as they prepare for careers that require advanced professional degrees and/or licensure (e.g. medical doctor, osteopathic doctor, physician
assistant, chiropractor, dentist, registered dietitian nutritionist).

The following recommendations are for professional programs within the CU System. Because requirements vary between institutions and from year to year, students
need to check the requirements of any specific schools they plan to apply to at least 1 year prior to application. Note the programs listed below are all highly competitive.
Additional course work and experience within the field are encouraged to improve the strength of the application.
Medical School – All required biological science courses for admission are included in the major. The medical school encourages students to consider additional course
work in computer sciences, genetics, humanities, and social sciences.
Physician Assistant Program – Additional required courses for admission include BIOL 3830 Genetics; PSY 1000 General Psychology; and PSY 3280 Abnormal Psychology
or PSY 3620 Developmental Psychology.
Physical Therapy Program - Additional required courses for admission include PSY 1000 General Psychology; PSY 3280 Abnormal Psychology or PSY 3620 Developmental
Psychology.
Dental School - One additional required course in microbiology, such as BIOL 2030 Microbiology, is required for admission. The dental school encourages student to
consider electives in anatomy, cell biology, histology, immunology, physiology, business management/finance, psychology and communications.
Nutrition and Dietetic Program (RDN) – Additional required courses for admission include PSY 1000 General Psychology; BIOL 2030/2130 Microbiology (with lab); HPNU
3940 Nutrition Science and Food Preparation. Recommended electives include HPNU 2080 The Profession of Dietetics; HPNU 3130 The Gut Microbiome; HPNU 4090
Food, Culture, Community and Health; HSCI 3201 Health Behavior Change; and HSCI 3630 Culture Health; and HSCI 4650 Health Coaching. Students planning to pursue
an RDN program after graduation should follow the four-year plan in the last page of this guide.
