Most last for an * Persistent high temp over 38 degrees for more than 3 average of 8 days. Patient will not need antibiotics for days that doesn’t come down with paracetamol or ibuprofen most throat infections. * Symptoms last longer than 10-14 days Patient Action: * Hard to breathe/drinks fluids * Speak to a pharmacist re: OTC medication Sprains and Strains Sprain: injured ligament ,usually thumb, Patient action: * Pain is severe and not controlled by OTC medication wrist, knee or ankle - treat with gentle * Speak to pharmacist re: OTC pain medication * No improvement after 3-4 days self treatment exercise as pain allows. * Deformity of affected body part/severe bruising/swelling Strain: Overstretching/tearing of muscle, * Can’t move affected joint usually back or legs and following * Numbness of affected area exercise - rest. Sunburn See Practice Nurse if blistered. Pharmacy if normal sunburn Temperature and Fever in Children High temp is classed as 38 degrees or Patient Action: * Rash or is very unwell more. Should go down on it's own treatment * Temp doesn't come down with paracetamol/ibuprofen after 3-4 days. * Speak to pharmacist re: OTC medication * Showing signs of dehydration * Appointment with GP if under 3mths old Threadworms * Itchy bum Patient Action: * Speak to GP if pregnant or breastfeeding or need to treat * Waking in the night * Patient to check self care leaflet for advice on a child under the age of 2yrs. * Worms in poo (look like white thread) treatment * Speak to pharmacist re: OTC medication - very easy to treat. Will be advised to treat all members of the household
