Chan ycchan@cityu.edu.hk This study tour aims at providing opportunities to current Japanese language students to use the language practically and experience the Japanese culture in Japan. Students are expected to strengthen their communication and interpersonal skills after joining the tour. Programs in the study tour include: tutorial, presentations, group discussions, company visit and cultural exchange activities between Japanese and Hong Kong students. Our instructor will accompany the visiting journey on this tour. This year’s study tour is divided into three parts: Part A: 24 May – 27 May Company visits, exchange activities (local transportation and entrance fee are not included in the program) Part B: 28 May -22 June Learning Japanese, experiencing Japanese culture, local sight seeing tour, visiting Tokyo Disney Land Part C: 23 June – 24 June Free time General Information Destination Tokyo, Japan Duration 23/May – 25/June 2007 Language School Tokyo Japanese Language Culture Institute Address: 4-6-6 Higashi-Nakano, Nakano-ku, Tokyo, Japan Expenses The total fee is about HK$15,200.- (using exchange rate of 0.067) The actual amount may be slightly different due to the fluctuation of exchange rate. Payment should be made in early May. The above fee includes a round-trip air-ticket, tuition fee, accommodation, one- day local tour fee, one-day Tokyo Disney land pass. (Local transportation and meal are NOT included.) This study tour is covered automatically by City University’s Group Travel Insurance and students are free to buy extra travel insurance package. Target Participants This study tour is designed for full-time students who enrolled in UGC-funded program and took CTL Japanese language courses. The number of participants is limited to 30 students. 2 CTL Japanese Language C ourses: CTL2930 Elementary Japanese I / CTL 2931 Elementary Japanese II / CTL 3932 Integrated Japanese I / CTL3933 Integrated Japanese II / CTL4935 Practical Japanese I Sponsorship This sponsorship is intended only for the full-time UFC-funded students who enrolled in CTL Japanese language. This tour is limited to 30 students. Each successful candidate can receive sponsorship from QAC (Quality Campus Life Fund) and the department of CTL for HK$1,250.- and HK$2,000.- respectively. Students are also encouraged to apply for subsidy from Student Development Services (SDS). Last year, each student got HK$1,000.- from SDS. Duties Students participating in the tour will be asked to contribute a number of hours (Max. 10 hours) of their time during the year for any QAC and/or CTL activities. Each student is requested to submit TWO reports (an individual cultural report plus a report of personal reflection) within two weeks after returning from Japan. The content of the report should be related to Japanese modern or traditional culture. Students will be asked to do a preliminary research and submit a brief proposal before departure. The proposal and report will be evaluated by our instructors and exhibited in CTL and QAC’s promotional activities.
