3.1 Means of Travel and Transport Def:- Transport, or transportation, is the movement of humans, animals and goods from one location to another. Means of transport are the ways by which people and goods are carried from one place to other. Ex- Bus, train, aero plane, ship, bike, car etc. Road Transport Means of travel Air Transport & Transport Rail Transport Water Transport 1) Road Transport:- * When road is used for the travel and transport purpose, such transport is called as Road transport. * The means of transport which are used for road transport are- Carts Bicycles Rickshaws Cars Buses jeeps, trucks etc. Bullock carts are the most common means of transport in villages. * In some villages, peoples are using tractors for- - Transport by adding trolleys to it. - Also used for travelling short distances. - For taking their farm produce to towns and cities. * In desert, instead of bullock cart, camel cart is used. * Now all over the country, pucca roads have been built for an easy and fast movement of vehicles. - Even motor cars and buses are seen in villages and used for carrying peoples. - Trucks are used for carrying goods. * With the advancement in technology, pucca roads are now turned into highways. Highways are the main roads that connects large and important towns, cities. * There are two types of highways:- 1) State Highways 2) National Highways 1) State Highways:- The highways which connects the major cities of a state are called as state highways. 2) National Highways:- The highways which connects the major cities of different states are called as national highways. Ex- Grand Trunk Road/Highway:- runs from Amritsar to Kolkata.
