Pre treatment for bioethanol production. After lipids are extracted from microalgae to make biodiesel, the residual biomass, which is generated as a by product, can be fermented with yeast to produce ethanol .In this study, FAME was extracted from KNM0029C and the residual biomass was used to produce bioethanol. HOW IS BIOETHANOL AND BIODIESEL PRODUCT? During fermentation, microorganisms (e.g., bacteria and yeast) metabolize plant sugars and produce ethanol. Biodiesel is a liquid fuel produced from renewable sources, such as new and used vegetable oils and animal fats and is a cleaner-burning replacement for petroleum-based diesel fuel. IS BIOETHANOL A BIOFUEL? Biodiesel is an alternative fuel to diesel, and bioethanol can be used in place of petrol. Biodiesel cannot be used on its own in traditional internal combustion engines but can be blended with traditional petroleum fuel. Bioethanol can be used on its own or in a blend. CAN BIODIESEL BE MADE WITH ETHANOL? Using ethanol or biodiesel reduces the consumption of gasoline and diesel fuel made from crude oil, which can reduce the amount of crude oil imported from other countries. Ethanol and biodiesel are also cleaner- burning fuels than pure gasoline and diesel fuel. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ETHANOL AND BIODIESEL? In it simplest form, ethanol is an alcohol product produced from corn, wheat, sugar cane, and biomass and used as an additive in gasoline to increase its octane level. Biodiesel, on the other hand, is derived from natural oils such as soybean oil or animal fats.
